On March 23rd, 2021 the Spring Valley Fire Department, Columbian Fire Engine Company, and the greater firefighting community was rocked by the untimely death of firefighter Jared Lloyd. Jared lost his life battling a massive fire at an assisted living facility and was credited with saving several residents before he was tragically killed in the line of duty when the building collapsed.

In the time since his death Jared has been honored and memorialized by Rockland County, The New York State Legislature and the President of the United States for his dedication and bravery.

AS we approach the 2nd anniversary of his passing, The Spring Valley Fire Department is launching an initiative called "Light Rockland Red For Jared." We are asking our fellow Fire Departments, EMS agencies, Police Departments, business owners, homeowners, and school administrators to install red lights outside of their buildings from March 19th to March 26th to honor Jared's memory. We make this request so that Jared's legacy of service, dedication, friendship and duty live on and inspire us and future generations both in Rockland, and throughout the country.
